The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 amended the parenthood provisions previously contained in the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990, updating them to give recognition to the changing nature of family life, and to deal with certain interpretative difficulties that the 1990 Act had thrown up. Some of the changes are discussed here, and a particular problem identified with the application of the new rules to the existing rules governing financial provision on divorce.
