This chapter considers the same-sex couple, Agron and Nasir, also known by the popular portmanteau “Nagron.” Agron and Nasir are both rebel slaves who form a lasting relationship in the series, and they are extremely popular among fans of the show. The chapter examines the reception of this ground-breaking representation by gay and straight fans alike. In a survey of numerous fan sites and the many comments posted online about the characters, the chapter concludes that although “Nagron” is a positive step forward for the representation of gay relationships on television, the centrality of this relationship to the main text left little for writers of slash fiction to explore in their writing.
