The Crisis of Social Democracy
The Crisis of Social Democracy
This chapter first sets out the book's purpose, which is to examine where, how far, and why social democracy has retreated. This encompasses the study of the support base of social democratic parties, labour and other civil society organisations traditionally allied to social democracy, and the shift in values and attitudes among the electorate. The discussions then turn to the concept of social democracy, challenges to social democracy, and the predicament of social democracy in Europe. An overview of the subsequent chapters is also presented.
