This chapter focuses on Paul van Ostaijen, who was mostly responsible for the arrival of expressionism in Flanders, Belgium, studying his attempts to bring out a state through literature and the breakthrough of expressionism in Flanders. It then looks at the November Revolution in Berlin, how van Ostaijen's experiences in both cities influenced his political writings, and also examines his Occupied City, which had clear and practical political consequences.
