This chapter surveys the past, the present and the future of the law of impediments to marriage in Scotland and Louisiana. It highlights the similarities and differences between the development of that law in Scotland and the development of that law in Louisiana and, both for these similarities and for these differences, offers up at least some tentative explanations.
