The arrival of the Vikings in Skye and the Western Isles marked the end of the Iron Age and the beginning of marked cultural, political and linguistic changes. This chapter examines settlements like those at the Udal, North Uist and Drimore, South Uist, cemeteries like that at Cnip Headland, Lewis and major finds like the Norse chessmen from Uig in Lewis.
