This chapter explores a third way of using a theological hammer: extending the crack on the metaphysical surface of sense with an affirmative ethic of counter-effectuation that releases the eternal truth within events. This new vocabulary comes from Deleuze’s Logic of Sense, where he attends more carefully to the Stoics, whom he praises as “the first to reverse Platonism, and to bring about a radical inversion.” Here a greater emphasis is placed on ethics, and the transformational processes that condition the actor’s affirmative liberation of events, whose offspring she is. Shults spells this out in relation to a point-line-surface motif that is developed throughout Logic of Sense. Deleuze argues that the conditions for real experience are the emission of singularities on the metaphysical surface engendered by the endless movement of the two-sided aleatory point in both directions (past and future) along the unlimited line of the Aion.
