This chapter introduces the main theme of the book: how a crisis of identity is at the root of the latest financial crisis of Europe. It introduces the readers to the main themes in Derrida’s work (such as debt and gift) and poses a set of questions that the various chapters in the book attempt to answer. Finally, the chapter provides interpretive links between the separate chapters of the book, thereby providing the background against which the chapters in the book should be interpreted.
